About Lori Pittenger

Lori Pittenger Welcome!
I am a Pacific Northwest Artist and my oil paintings are representational impressions of things and places that I have felt led to paint. I am inspired by the incredible wealth of beauty often found just out my back door. I love to paint fruit and vegetables from our garden and orchards nearby and I enjoy painting trees, leaves and flowers, and barns and farm scenes from around the state of Washington.

I have always enjoyed art and it has been a passion of mine since childhood. I began oil painting early in my life, painting reproductions of Eyvind Earle works in very large scale for fun, but desired to someday create my own unique works that others might enjoy. My focus in college was on art and interior design and I have used what was learned about the elements of design, history of art, and color theory to paint and create my own style over the past 25 years or so. As a self taught painter with a background in interior design, I am always looking to create a sense of balance and harmony with a key focal point in my art to achieve a pleasant experience for the viewer. A piece of artwork that catches the eye, yet brings a sense of calm, inspiration perhaps, and joy to others. I am a visual person and am constantly looking for inspiration in nature and life around me... thinking, planning, imagining what my next painting will be. When in the studio, I enjoy painting still life, landscapes, and occasional abstracts. My subjects are carefully studied and arranged with composition and balance a priority. They are painted with colors that are true to the scene personally viewed by me, and the oil paint is applied in a loose fashion that is impressionistic yet maintaining a sence of realism. Often there is a combination of smooth, blended out paint with thicker "impasto" paint layed in at key areas of the painting, which gives visual interest to the work. My style is alla prima, painting for 2 to 3 days while the paint remains wet and I paint directly to the canvas or panel, without under drawing to keep my painting free. It is interesting for me to look at my work now and still see a hint of influence from Eyvind Earle.
